Dakuku served as Director-General/CEO of the Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) from March 2016 to March 2020. He concurrently served as Chairman of the Association of African Maritime Administrations (AAMA), the continental body of all African Maritime Administrators, from March 2017 to March 2020.

Before NIMASA, Dakuku Peterside served in the Nigeria National Assembly (House of Representatives) from 2011 to 2015, holding the position of Chairman of the House Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream). He had earlier served as Rivers State Commissioner of Works (2007 to 2011), where he supervised the building of 1,000km of roads, 10 bridges, 8 Flyover bridges, amongst other critical infrastructure.

Dakuku founded the Development and Leadership Institute (DLI) Nigeria, a Non-Profit devoted to raising a new generation of African leaders.

He holds a Doctorate in Organisational Behaviour from the University of Port Harcourt. Dr Dakuku has also attended high-level leadership courses at the J Mack Robinson College of Business- Georgia State University Atlanta, Harvard Kennedy School Cambridge, Kellogg School of Management Chicago, Galilee College, University of Stanford Graduate School of Business, University of Stellenbosch Business School in South Africa and the Wharton School University of Penn. Dakuku is a writer and researcher whose research interests include crisis leadership in developing countries, Corporate Political Strategy (interface of Business and public policy) and reform of government institutions. He has over 200 newspaper-published commentaries and peer reviewed publications.

He authored the seminal book "Strategic Turnaround, The Story of a Government Agency". His forthcoming book, "Leading in a Storm: Practical Leadership Strategies in Crisis Situations", is due for publication in December 2023.

Dr Peterside is on the board of many leading Non-profit organizations where he devotes his time to worthy causes.
